Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, based in Tavares, recently received a sizeable gift of $150,000 from Women for Hospice, which brings the total amount donated by the Lake County volunteer organization to $2.45 million.

Founded more than 25 years ago, Women for Hospice is dedicated to making sure hospice patients and their families have the support and care they need during their difficult time, according to a news release. The members raise money from monthly luncheons, special events, memorial gifts and the Hospice Hope Chest resale store in downtown Mount Dora, which is run by volunteers.

At the Women for Hospice December luncheon, the group’s leadership presented Cornerstone Hospice President and CEO Chuck Lee and Cornerstone Hospice Foundation Executive Director Nick Buchholz with two checks in the amounts of $100,000 and $50,000.

“We are overwhelmed with the generosity of Women for Hospice,” Nick says in the release. “Since 2010, the annual donation has been $100,000. They surprised us with the additional $50,000, which was collected from sales at the Hospice Hope Chest.”

The funds will be used exclusively in Lake County for patient care, including services that cater to veterans, assisting patients with the care of their pets, providing care to the uninsured and underinsured and much more.

For 35 years, Cornerstone Hospice has been a leading community-owned provider of end-of-life care in Central Florida. Cornerstone serves more than 7,000 people in Lake, Sumter, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties each year.
