Empowering Social Workers

March is National Social Worker month, a time to recognize the support and comfort social workers provide to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. With the increase in violent crime and suicide across our country, the need for social workers is evident and growing.

Social workers perform the vital role of helping children, families and communities overcome homelessness, addiction and other traumas to live productive, fulfilling lives. They are employed in hospitals, schools, veterans’ centers, corporations, all levels of government and more.

According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), social work is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States with 782,000 projected in the field by 2030.

In our community, Kids Central Inc. employs social workers who strive to strengthen families to prevent abuse and trauma. They connect children who must enter the foster care system with the resources to thrive while supporting parents’ work toward reunification with their children.

While working with vulnerable families, children who have experienced trauma and the demands of the system bring real challenges, those who feel called to serve others and make a difference find social work uniquely rewarding.
