Belleview Freedom Walk to Honor 9/11 Victims and First Responders
The City of Belleview invites the community to join together for the 2024 Belleview Freedom Walk at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Belleview Community Center. This event is dedicated to remembering those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001, and honoring the first responders who continue to serve our community today.
The evening will feature remarks by several community leaders, including Mayor Christine Dobkowski and Florida State Representative Ryan Chamberlin. In attendance will be representatives from local and regional first responder agencies—police, fire rescue, and paramedics—as well as members of nonprofits such as the American Legion and Lions Club. Florida State Senator Dennis Baxley will also be present, underscoring the importance of unity and remembrance on this solemn day. The Belleview High School Chamber Singers will offer a poignant musical tribute.
Following the speeches, participants will take a brief walk around the park and Lake Lillian, a reflective moment to conclude the evening in solidarity.
Mayor Christine Dobkowski shares her thoughts on the significance of this event: “The Belleview Freedom Walk is a time for us to come together as a community to remember the lives lost on that fateful day and to express our deep gratitude to the first responders who embody courage and sacrifice. It’s an opportunity to honor the resilience of the human spirit and to reaffirm our commitment to unity and hope.”
City Administrator Sandi McKamey emphasizes the importance of recognizing our local heroes: “This event allows us to pay tribute to the selflessness of our first responders. Their commitment to our safety and well-being is something we must never take for granted, and the Freedom Walk is a way to show our respect and appreciation. By honoring them, we remind ourselves of the values that bind us together as a community.”
Robert Vass, Events and Promotions Manager, highlights the community aspect of the event: “The Belleview Freedom Walk is not just a remembrance; it’s an opportunity for our community to come together in unity. It’s about sharing a collective moment of respect, reflection, and appreciation for those who have given so much. This gathering reminds us of the strength we find in each other, and it is a testament to our enduring spirit in the face of adversity.”
The City of Belleview welcomes all to attend and participate in the night.
