First-Ever Moving Day in The Villages March 16

The Parkinson’s Foundation will hold its first-ever Moving Day fundraiser in The Villages on March 16 at The Polo Club, located at 700 Buena Vista Blvd. Moving Day is the Parkinson’s Foundation signature event to raise awareness and support for people living with the degenerative disease.

The Parkinson’s Foundation has hosted several annual educational events in The Villages. This year they were urged by local support group leaders to expand their presence by hosting a Moving Day event.“The Villages support groups are led by some of the best advocates we know!” Kelly says.

There are ten local support groups for Parkinson’s in The Villages. Villagers Rose Lang, Laura Wright, Tammy Dunseath, Diana LaBumbard, Jennifer Gelb and Tim and Kaye Coursen serve on the volunteer planning committee for Moving Day.

“Moving Day in The Villages gives our community the chance to speak up about Parkinson’s disease and move others to take action. Moving Day is a movement for change—towards more awareness, more funding and more understanding of a disease that affects so many of our family and friends,” says Kelly Sivyer, local development director for the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Individuals and teams register for the event and begin fundraising in advance. According to The Villages Moving Day website, they have already exceeded their $75,000 goal. Kelly says. “We wanted to set a challenging yet achievable goal for the community. We are blown away by the support thus far!”

More than 450 walkers and 40 volunteers are expected to turn out for the event. All funds raised on Moving Day help people with Parkinson’s get access to the care they need, advance research initiatives and provide education.
