LRMC receives advanced recertification

Recertification for its Primary Stroke Centers has been announced by Leesburg Regional Medical Center. This includes the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark, symbols of quality from their respective organizations.

Accredited since 2011, LRMC provides rapid treatment to more than 500 patients in the area who suffer strokes annually, according to a press release.

“Stroke is a brain attack and we should think of it in the same way we think of a heart attack. You need to seek medical treatment quickly,” says Don Henderson, president and chief executive officer of Central Florida Health, the not-for-profit parent company of LRMC. “Being a certified advanced primary stroke center means we have trained staff and leading-edge technology in place to make an accurate diagnosis and provide our patients with the right care in a timely manner.”

Certification included a rigorous on-site review by an expert from the Joint Commission for compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements. These standards are program management, delivery of clinical care, and performance improvement.
